I am using an iMac G4/800, 768 sdram, 32 meg video running Mac Tiger 10.4.11 PPC. Given my slower hardware specs, am I wiser to use the Gimp 2.4.7 for Mac Tiger PPC from the Wilber-loves-Apple site or a version of 2.6 from GimponOsx on SourceForge? After trying them both, 2.4.7 seems to run faster, more stable or is this just my imagination? I rarely require any serious image manipulation so the newer features of 2.6 might no be necessary for me. Thanks, Ken.

Always try to run the latest.
The latest will always be better, it will either have a function the older versions dont have or a bugfix!
The only gimp for mac i know about is from lisanet, so i would go there and download 2.6.11
    <a class="postlink" href="http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/Download.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/Download.html</a>
Its a .de page but its written in english.

Thanks Maffe811. Even with my much slower iMac specs, you still think that 2.6.11 will not run too slow? Also, what about Gimpshop which only goes up to Tiger PPC? Just want to check out all my options. Thanks, Ken

Gimpshop is a program or add-on, im not sure since ive never used it, to make gimp look more like photoshop.
If you are experiencing a slow gimp you should go to a gimp version that runs smoothly on your computer.
But i will always recomend the lates version! Even though i might forget to update myself :p

Newer versions of GIMP will be more optimized, and even not, it shouldn't run slower regardless of what GIMP you have. Try 1.6 from lisanet :)
