When I open up GIMP, the layers window does not appear. How can I permanently make it appear when I open GIMP

When you close GIMP make sure that you don't close the layers dialogue, instead just close the GIMP interface. Then open GIMP up again and the layers dialogue should be there.

The layers closes automatically, even though I try to keep it open

Ya, it closes automatically but when you open GIMP back up, it should be there...is it?

Actually, your method was right. It was just me doing it wrong. Sorry for the trouble
