I need to save files to other formats like RGBA 4444 not RGBA 8888.
As I tested, normal Gimp (without proper plugin) can't save a file with that format.

I saw one plugin could do the job which is https://github.com/jeffboody/texgz but I can't manage to install it due to it requires gimptool which I don't have. Due to I don't build gimp from source. Although I even tried building from source once but no success, and I am prefer to do that way again.

Can anyone suggest me another way around to make texqz plugin work on 2.8.2 Gimp (i'm on OS X Lion 10.7.5)? or Any suggestion on plugins related to do this kind of task?

Another method is to save to some 8-bit format Gimp handles natively (BMP or PNG) and then use some utility to convert the output image to the proper format. ImageMagick will likely do it (they also have a very helpful forum over there).
