I've seen this on other forum, and it's a really good idea.

Basically, there's a forum hidden to members where all the locked topics are moved to. This makes the forum a lot more tidy and stops it looking like the mods are too harsh and lock tons of topics.

As I said, I've seen it work really well on other forums and it may work here. Just a suggestion,

    Euan

Because then the people who've posted in the topic get their posts deleted and their post count gets mucked up. Quite a lot of hassle.

Half of my posts would be gone! Who gave you that crappy idea? :p Seriusly like half of my post would be gone. My posts are like signals for someone to lock the thread :)

Maybe something only staff can see? So new and or Members don't see it. Maybe it contains mean stuff, maybe something broke the rules etc. etc. etc.

agree, or if there was a link to a picture file that was needed, you could get to it. i think you should have to be a member to get into the forum with all the locked things, that way guests have to register :)

    dont really like the idea
many a times useful threads are also locked
and sometimes due to oldness too a thread is locked
so if all topics go to bin then it wont be fair

Why wouldnt it be fair? If we post on it and its old you make it seem like we just broke the rules in 15 diferent ways. And if we don't you lock it and it goes to waste? Doubleyou tee eff man...

you mean you want all the rules thread (e.gs at viewforum.php?f=1 ) to go to bin
also many useful threads which though are old are sometimes locked but it does not means they are not useful for many.

Obviusly not the rules. Just those topics you know nobody will use like the Gimp Tennis one you just moved to Fun thread the other one is useless ;)

Perhaps rather than making it hidden it more becomes a big library instead. So if someone still wants to veiw a locked topic for whatever reason then they can, but they don't clutter up the forums. ;)

Usually if it's mean stuff, we delete it on the spot... But I do like the idea nonetheless. ^-^
