First of all, greetings and welcome. Second of all, slow down. What *exactly* are you trying to create. Asking us how to "make fire" isn't terrifically specific...particularly if we don't know the overall result you are shooting for.

Also, some effects are just more complicated to produce than others. Depending on exactly what you want to do, you may have to build up your skill sets with lesser tasks before tackling something really ambitious.

With that out of the way, please describe your project to us and if you are in some sort of hurry in getting it done or not.

    Cheers.

    -Trip

i think he wants the flame to have a limit. like to stop halfway into the pic. he said "over someting transparent" so...im guessing a stock wouldnt work.

You could create a new layer in your logo graphic and paste the fire graphic onto the layer. Then move the fire around on the layer until it's positioned correctly.

Ok, it's a tad more involved than that. Ideally, the fire would have been created on a transparent background, so you could just copy and paste it into the logo graphic. If not (let's say you created it on a white background), you'll need to select it, either with the path tool (which can be challenging) or use GIMP's "select by color" option, then copy the selected flame (minus background) and paste it into the logo graphic.
