Hello, I am not able to activate the eraser tool 'mode' settings - the box is grey and set to 'normal'. Mode settings seem to be active on every other tool that has a mode setting. I would like to be able to switch it to 'overlay' mode. I'm not sure if this is a technical problem, or some aspect of the software I have yet to understand. I am running an up-to-date version (2.8.6) on Windows 7. Thanks for any help you can offer! Greg
Hi Rod, can you tell me then how to do 'overlay' with the eraser? I am following this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f00u19-fck ... presumably this is on a previous version of GIMP, because at 1:40 he switches the eraser mode to overlay. Thanks for any help you can provide. Basically I am trying to learn to colorize images. If you have a recommendation for an alternate tutorial, or care to explain the process yourself, I'd be open to that. Thanks.
Yes he isn't using the overlay mode in tool options he is using overlay mode for the LAYER. watch the video again. He is actually placing the layer mask in overlay mode then using the eraser tool.
ah, I see, thank you! As it happens, my image is mostly white (it is a scan of a pencil drawing) and this doesn't seem to be working except on the areas where there are pencil marks... Can you make any suggestions as to how to proceed? I would like to colorize the grass green, the sky blue, etc, without obscuring the pencil lines. Thanks for any help you can provide here.
Yes i recently applied a pretty cool effect like this to an image a friend posted. http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 71#p108397 The steps for different ways to accomplish this are also posted there.
