Give it a rest guys. I'm known for not knowing when to stop and yet you surpassed me :D

All the best to this topic participants and to the GIMP community. Let's hope GIMP hasn't turned into abandonware with 2.7, as some signs suggest.

Why didn't you just minimize the command window, just as easy?

Nah 2.6.11 will not be the last stable version. The developers will get back on it you will see.Or new ones will take it over.Gimp is too important for Linux and Windows users.

Perhaps Adobe is behind this hideous rumor?

    i just :D

It's not an Adobe rumor. I didn't read it anywhere. It's just my concern not seeing any news from the dev team for a l o n g time.

Here's a 'What's up with free multimedia production tools in 2010' article linked there
    <a class="postlink" href="http://libregraphicsworld.org/articles.php?article_id=26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://libregraphicsworld.org/articles. ... icle_id=26</a>

And it only shows that GIMP situation is not so pretty, even compared to other OS apps.

    Even this blog <a class="postlink" href="http://www.chromecode.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.chromecode.com/</a> doesn't shed a light on the subject.

As far as i know the developers are working on a working beta by the end of the first quarter. (by the end of March)
A 2.8 version probably will launch in the third quarter. (probably early October)

It's just some small single window bugs that need to be worked out.
Everything else is ready as far as i know.

I'm only judging by other software development I've watched e.g. I used to use nightly builds of Inkscape which were issued at least once a week.

You can keep up on Gimp, BABL, and GEGL for nightly or somewhat nightly builds at git here

The link is dead but I won't be testing any nightly builds not prepared as windows binaries anyway.

That was going to be the next step, (window binary uploads), so you may want to just bookmark it for future reference anyways.
I did notice the link to the ftp files was dead. That is strange.maybe flaming text is down right now?
Yup the domain is now for sale =\
