well, take the last one for example. did you draw the render (yes/no) ? prolly no! :p
did you do the bg (yes/no)
did you do the shadow (yes/no)? if so, did you use a filter (dropshadow) or did you do it manually (yes/no)

right now it seems like the random blue squares (i am assuming brushes) are the only major thing you did...correct me if i'm wrong.

    ^^

okay i get it now. . . i did not draw the ZIM character, but i cut out the render myself. The background used to be blue, but i changed it aground with the hue button, the shadow is all manual, i don't know how to use the shadow drop button effectively.

The blue squares are brushes, and i thought that they kinda spiffed up the image.

1 is too confusing, not sure what the focal is supposed to be, too many colors.
2 all it is are some brushes
3 neat but needs some work with the contrast
4 lol, that looks cool, and real.

    +1
Okay, I will do this as hard as I can, as you wished for critique ;)
1.: Quite bad tbh, blurred render, too many colours and so on. Read some signature tutorials if you want to improve your sig qualities.
2.: Some brushes, rotated and merged, thats nothing new and/or special.
3.: Definately has a lot of potential, shouldn't have been that small. Photoshop/Gimp tutorials about smoke could help you to blend the eye in a bit more.
4.: The image itself looks nice, even though its a bit small. I kinda dislike it because it has been re-made soo often on youtube/other forums that I'm sick of it :p

If you've got questions, keep asking them. That's what we're here for :)

    Re: Newcomer

    Awesome, thanks guys.

i had some qualms about posting the top one. It's not really my best work, i'll take a look at some tuts too.

On the second one, i used alot of paths instead of brushes, i kinda wish you had noticed, but oh well, i'll work on that too. . .

i noticed on the smoke one that the smudges where i tried to blend the eye into the smoke makes it kind of stand out, i need to work on blending

The eye one was part of a tut i did, but i changed the color of the eye from brown to blue, and reshaped the pupil, i didn't just paste an image over it (in case you wondered)

I'm leaning a bit more toward photo manipulation rather than sig/art stuff. Thanks for all of the CC it's really appreciated

    Re: Newcomer

Ahh if you did this using paths its a nice one :D Sorry that I got that wrong, but there are tons of brushes that look exactly the same :)
For the photomanipulation things, visit GimpKnowHow's youtube channel, he has some neat tutorials about photomanip ;) For smoke tutorials, there are lots and lots in the internet, check abduzeedo or just google it. You will find everything you need ;D

okay cool, thanks. I have been working on a new signature in a different size 400x150, and here it is
    [IMG]
It took me forever to get it to look right. Then when i was looking at it here, i realized i went a little overboard on the hue :'(

The swordman has to stand out of the rest otherwise it would more be something like a BG you could copy and paste it it would give some 3-d effects ^^
