I've switched to native GIMP (the quartz theme isn't ready yet but that's OK for now I edited my own custom theme) and I'm never going back to the X11 version. For one thing the mouse works better in the native version.... particularly the scroll ball on my mighty mouse. The version I'm using has only one dock icon and that's a nice thing. I really like the menubar integration. The app simply acts better for me natively than it did through X11 where it feels more foreign. So lisanet you may not see the value in it but that doesn't mean there isn't any.

Sorry, I sorta didn't really understand most of what you guys just said. But is there going to be a version of GIMP that can run on a ppc Tiger 10.4.11 without X11?

from where did you download this version?

And, may I ask you some questions about...

    ... features?
Which printing dialog is available? GTK print, gutenprint or Mac OS X?
What about support for graphic tablets and scanners?
Is the Help function (F1) available?
Any special plugins available? GreyCStoration, Liquid rescale?

    ... integration?
Does drag&drop work, both on the dock icon and on the main window?
Does copy&paste work between GIMP and other OS X apps?
Where are the configuration files and directories for brushes, patterns, scripts ...? Dotfiles or "~/Library/Application Support/Gimp"?

... Mac OS X user experience?
What fonts are used for the interface? Size?
What "theme" is used for the widgets? GTK or Apple's Aqua interface?
    Command+C or Control+C for copying?
What if you hide GIMP's main window? Will the toolbar and docks hide too?

Where did you get this? The only versions that I've tried have had major issues making it unusable.

Well yeah, sometime. But Intel Leopard is more likely.

I'm guessing you are asking those questions because you want to prove the superiority of the X11 version but I'll bite.

I actually have two versions on my leopard PPC. The one from the 2.4.7 japanese site and a 2.6 version I compiled through macports.

1.) The print dialogs are not the OS X ones.
2.) I'm not sure the version from Macports supports graphics tablets but the japanese one supposed to. I haven't tested it though as I don't have one.
3.) F1 doesn't seem to do anything but I never need to use help.
4.) Drag and drop to the toolbox works. The dock icon no.
5.) They use OS X's clipboard.
6.) They include aquap as the native quartz theme is not ready so like I said I edited my own theme.
7.) Yes, the mac keys like command+s work.
8.) In The GIMP 2.6 version doesn't have the toolboxes set to be utility windows as far as I can tell... they don't dissapear when the app is out of focus.

2.6's integration through macport's native GTK isn't as good as with macports 2.4 or the japanese .app native 2.4. But either are stable enough for me to be productive. I used them to get an A in a college course.

Smoke_tetsu, can you compile an intel version of the japanese one?. I'd love to test it with my Wacom Intuos on my intel mac :D, but I have no idea about compiling, so I can't do it by myself.

And yes, the ppc japanese version works with the tablet... pretty nice.

I didn't test the japanese PPC version in deep because it runs very slow on an intel machine.
