awesome - I'm soooo eager to see it finally happen. Hopefully we (they) get the text tool and D'n'D issues kinked out soon....

I too can't wait! X11's days are numbered! ;) Seriously, the only thing I ran in there was The GIMP. Also hooray to it using native resources!

yeah your right its much better, i'm still trying to figure out how to adjust the size of icons and elements by editing the GTKRC file which has the values for sizes, that would improve the windows version but still we're stuck with the fat blue win xp bar  :'(

Nope, my screenshots are coming from the native Quartz engine, it's definitely not something you can run on windows, and is totally unrelated to GlossyP and other friends that poorly attempt to copy aqua

The new native theme engine looks a lot better than it, especially the sliders and the scrollbars. The sliders look nothing like the real thing and the scrollbars are missing the texture that doesn't move when you scroll it. That theme has been around for ages. The new theme engine is more like GTK-WIMP although I think better in some ways.

Oh, by the way for you Windows users changing your windows theme will change those "fat blue winxp bars". I suggest an "msstyle" or Windowblinds Skin. If you stick to GTK-WIMP those will also change the inside of the window to match. I also have PCs as well as a Mac and that's what I do there.

what I see there seems to be related to UI redising much more than themes

Actually it looks nothing to do with themes and everything to do with UI design. I'm sure it's possible but would require differences for the layout file for that particular window? (I don't know what that's called in GTK, in OS X it's the .nib files).

The question remains, is it possible?

    Yes but not easily.

GTK has .nib-like files, XML files with libglade I think, but I don't believe GIMP uses them. I think GIMP has the UI hardcoded, thus we would need to hack severely through the code, making us a fork much more than a package then. And no there's no way I'm going to try doing that, I think the core GIMP team will probably manage to improve the UI themselves

Better let the gui.gimp.org project do its job

Are there any full-screen screenshots of Aqua GIMP? (instead of shots of individual windows)

Yeah, I have a PowerPC Mac... so that's a no go. It has the native theme engine? Your screenshot\mockup did have GlossyP (sorry). I'm asking specifically about the version that had individual window screenshots posted in the OP.
