I did a search, read a few things, but there does not seem to be an ongoing discussion regarding the interface of GIMP on OS X. I would like to start one, just ideas and impressions of GIMP's interface today and what is could be tomorrow...

As for me, I have read about GIMP not conforming to a style, that it borrows from everybody and therefore has its own style. I think that's a good line to take. But I think the current X11 interface is awful, go make one people will say.. well what does anybody think of Pixelmator, I tried it and really liked the slickness of it. For those actually bringing GIMP to the Mac, natively in cocoa, will it be slick like Pixelmator??

Another thing I think GIMP should have, OS related (but I don't know if this can be skinned), would be to show layers as Scribbles does (http://www.atebits.com/software/scribbles/) I think this is am excellent way of conveying their use. Generally a lot more 3D wishing and swooshing.

I'm pretty sure Gimp will look the same on all os:es. IMO the 3D layers will get annoying after 2 minutes.

Could GIMP be skinned for that effect or is that beyond skinning?
